Sometimes, not often I find myself participating in a protest or a hearing on an unfolding injustice. A few weeks ago a public hearing on the air quality permit for a new, half-built Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) plant took place downtown in an old movie theater that had been refurbished some time back.

The day was bright and warm and a few dozen people congregated outside the front doors. Nearly all were there to register their objection to the plant, being built on indigenous land without those people granted oversight. It all appears to be a done deal, with the hearing conducted as an afterthought to cover the collective ass of the huge energy corporation building the plant, Puget Sound Energy.

I find it a repulsive exercise, hugely disrespectful, and a betrayal of basic human decency. Even if the plant wasn’t going to store enough explosive gas to obliterate everything for 6 miles in every direction, that the corporate overlords were also betraying their word to the local native people was just the same-old same-old bullshit that comes along with whites.

And insult to injury, the gas that is to be stored there isn’t necessary for the purpose claimed, to fuel the enormous container ships loading and unloading at the Port Of Tacoma. Supposedly it is less dirty to fuel the ships with natural gas than bunker fuel, but in this case the largest shipping line, TOTE, has already fitted their fleet with cleaner burning fuel to meet federal standards.

And a bird wandered aimlessly underfoot in the foyer.

Archival Pigment - When I print in my studio using computer technology with pigmented inks on acid and lignin free paper, I call that an Archival Pigment Print.
Silver - When I print in my darkroom on gelatin silver paper, that is a Silver Print. These prints are double weight on a cotton fiber base.
