It was a cold morning on New Year’s Day in 2014, but it was dry and so we went down to the water on Owen Beach in Point Defiance Park.
There were a few others there. We were all quiet, sorting through the rocks for agates and watching the clouds drift into the hills of Vashon and Maury Islands across the channel.
But a boy was intent on holding back the tide with a line of driftwood stuck down into the gravel along the tide line. He stared out, standing at one end of his fence and back from the edge of water encroaching on his creation.
The swelling water was not stopped of course. It was a childish idea. Even with something bigger, or taller, or made of the very best concrete the water will not be stopped.
It was a childish idea, yes, but it was charming when a child realized it at the beach on a cold New Year’s day.

Vintage prints are made within a year of the photographs create date. My usual practice is to print within a few days or weeks of exposure. What you see is a scan of the actual print that is for sale. Price does not include shipping or taxes.

Vintage - When I print the photograph within a year of the original exposure, that becomes a Vintage Print.
Archival Pigment - When I print in my studio using computer technology with pigmented inks on acid and lignin free paper, I call that an Archival Pigment Print.
Silver - When I print in my darkroom on gelatin silver paper, that is a Silver Print. These prints are double weight on a cotton fiber base.
