Until recently only one suspension bridge spanned the The Tacoma Narrows. It is a riveted steel behemoth more than a mile and a half at the car deck.  This bridge itself replaced the infamous Galloping Gertie, blown down in a windstorm shortly after it was finished. Now there are two bridges, the one pictured and another just south of it built from poured concrete.
