I live on Puget Sound, the inland sea of the Pacific Northwest of North America. I received my degree in Art, Design, and Art History from The American University. I've been to England, working with The Daily Mail newspaper and Camera, a magazine devoted to avant-garde photography. I've also traveled to Israel, Italy and the Republic of Ireland. I recently studied under Alan Ross, well known photographer, master printer and educator. I had a modest career as a commercial and portrait photographer. From very early on, I've exhibited in museums and galleries, notably 'LumenAria: Songs in the Key of Light,' a statement on the nature of creativity in photography containing more than 30 large examples. The story of my work is my life in the West. We've been here for seven generations. My pictures testify to 45 years of observations and impressions. My mother's family came to Washington State in 1856, along the Oregon Trail from Terre Haute Indiana. Before that, they came from Ireland, the west of Ireland, in the great diaspora, the flight from starvation. My father's family came from Croatia in the late 1880's to California, then to Washington. My grandfather was seven when his dying father declared "Martin, you're the head of the family now," from his deathbed.
